We inhabit a world where carbon emissions and man made chemicals are adversely affecting everything in nature, and we’re seeing terrible effects like acid rain and global warming. It looks as if we’re dismissing the damage we’re causing this amazing planet of ours. How wonderful it would be if we could breathe clean air in our neighborhoods, uncontaminated by poisons and toxins due to our way of living. Sadly pollution caused by us humans has made this not possible; in fact you’ll be breathing in toxic fumes that can have adverse effects on your health as well as the environment.
Our vast oceans, which make up most of the earth’s surface, are being poisoned by pollutants, mainly toxins and oil, which have a devastating effect on the life found in the ocean and as a result of that it affects us. Many fishing jobs that were reliant on the healthy bounty of the sea have been eradicated. Communities have relied on fishing for such a long time, for both food and economic prospects, and now all of this is coming to an end for many. Anyone wanting to be persuaded of how damaging oil spills are, need look no further than the recent Deepwater Horizon disaster, which cost billions to eventually fix and left many unemployed. So much wildlife died in that incident, not only fish but birds as well, affecting the whole eco system which can cause no end of problems in the food chain. A depressing example of human beings prioritizing its short-term necessity for oil, a dead substance, over the well-being of the earth and its other inhabitants.
Incredible sums are invested in oil exploration when the money could be used investing in alternative green energy solutions or research into green energy. Existing green energy solutions, which do no damage to the environment, are capable of delivering a lot of our energy needs. One alternative that will heat water and also provide power, is solar panels, which are very efficient in sunny locations. Wind turbines are another way of managing green energy as they only have to have wind to make them generate energy. The positive aspect of wind turbines, assuming that there’s enough wind, is that they operate all day and all night. Oil is destroying the earth and it will at some point run out, so it’s crucial to invest in green energy production now more than ever. If we did that, global warming plus the other ruinous consequences of pollution could actually be stopped, and just possibly reversed.
A lot of short term advantages will accrue to us, and we shall be presenting future generations many benefits. As an alternative to being at the mercy of intense weather patterns and harsh living conditions, our children, and their children, could live healthily in a clean, beautiful, and bounteous environment. Beginning to live green, in addition to preserving the environment, could be the only way we can ensure this.
It is going to take time, money and a huge amount of endeavor to try and minimize the damage of our actions on the environment, but it will be worth it.
